Positive Sources of Influence and Insperation

Success Ultra Now:

Michael Mackintosh, Nick Good, and occasionaly David Wolfe really know their stuff. These guys are experts on nutrtion, spirituality, positive living, etc, and they've really influenced me in a big way. They have a lot of great material on their Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/successultranow and even more on their free advanced training website at http://mysuperherotraining.com/basecamp/intro-with-nick-michael/.

David Wolfe:

This guy is without a doubt the authority on truly healthy nutrition and lifestyle in my opinion. This guy's information and knowledge has benefited me in huge ways and I'm forever in debt to him. First I'd recommend a few of his books as a good place to start. Amazing Grace http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grace-Principles-Living-Natural/dp/1556437307 is easily one of the best and most important book I've ever read. It's a huge life changer filled with invaluable information. And then one of his books that focuses primarily on nutrtion, Eating for Beauty http://www.amazon.com/Eating-Beauty-David-Wolfe/dp/1556437323/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343706093&sr=1-1&keywords=david+wolfe+eating+for+beauty is extremly informative and invaluable as well. You can also see him speaking about nutritional tips a lot on the Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Longevitydvds. And his website http://www.longevitywarehouse.com/Default.asp is a place where you can find all of the health enhancing products that he recommends and produces. Anything ranging from superfoods, to supplements, to hygiene products.
His additional websites are http://www.davidwolfe.com/ and http://www.thebestdayever.com/bde-david-wolfe.html.

Beverages

Now that I've covered some of the advice for food, which was to keep as many things organic as possible, I figured the next step would be to offer some advice on how to go about choosing drinks for a healthy lifestyle. With tons of unhealthy options out there such as soda's, energy drinks, GMO fruit/vegetable juices, coffee, alcohol etc, etc (try to stay away from all of these), it can be really difficult finding out the things that you should actually be drinking when trying to live a truely healthy lifestyle. With that said, I believe that the main source of hydration should be water, preferrably the kind that comes from a spring. I'd recommend checking out this website to find the one nearest to you; http://www.findaspring.com/ and buying some big several-gallon glass jugs, perhaps from Ebay or Amazon, and filling those up at the spring and using that as your main source of drinking water. If there's not a spring close by to where you live, I'd recommend buying water that's sold in glass bottles. My personal favorite brand is http://www.mountainvalleyspring.com/. It's important to get beverages in glass bottles because drinking water, or any other drink that's sold in a plastic bottle, will present the problem of ingesting Bisphenol A (BPA). BPA is a harmful chemical found in plastic that leaches off into the beverage and can lead to many health problems down the road. More information on that can be found here: http://www.naturalnews.com/033821_BPA_chemicals.html.
Glass bottles are the way to go, but if those arn't available, try to look for any brands that have BPA-free labels. A good example is http://pentawater.com/_pw/index.php.
Besides that, I'd recommend all kinds of organic juices and organic fruit smoothies. I personally try to avoid dairy, but if you're looking for a safe and healthy brand, I'd recommend http://www.stonyfield.com/products/stonyfield/milk/half-gallon/fat-free and for all the vegans out there looking for a good alternative to milk, my favorite is http://www.pacificfoods.com/our-foods/nut-grain-beverages. The great thing about Pacific Foods alternatives to milk is that most of them don't contain soy, which a lot of research suggests is harmful to male hormones.
That should cover everything, or atleast the basics. Hope you enjoyed reading this and that you can benefit from this information.

Thrive

I wanted to share with everyone one of my favorite documentaries, for those of you who havn't seen it yet. It's called Thrive: What On Earth Will It Take. It goes into a lot of depth about not only a lot of the important issues going on in the world today, but also what each one of us as an individual can do to help bring about positive change for the world as a whole. It's a little bit longer than 2 hours, but definetely worth the watch. Hope you enjoy....

The "Organic Vs. GMO" Issue

The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his or her patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.
- Thomas A. Edison

Organic agriculture is society's brightest hope for positive change.
-Michael Potter, Chairman and President of Eden Foods

One of the first things that sent me on a path to health and enlightenment was when I found out the information and benefits about organic products. I was shopping with my brother one day and picked up some conventional bananas to put in my basket when I heard him say, "Why are you getting those? There's no point in getting fruit or vegetables that aren't organic. Those were grown using GMO's and pesticides and they don't even have any nutrients." So I shrugged, placed those back, and put the organic ones in my basket. And that was the spark that set off a new revolution for my life. I had heard a friend from a long time ago talking about how organic was better, but I was young and careless at the time, so it just flew in one ear and out the other. But this time I was ready to receive such information. I did a ton of reseach for the next week and I realized how important it is to strictly buy organic things, not only for the personal health benefits (which are huge), but also because it's much healthier for the planet in general. The companies that produce organic food are very courteous to the planet and their customers, they're very eco-responsible, and they lack a lot of the corruption that the big corporation conventional food companies have for the most part.
If you're buying organic food, you're buying food the way that nature intended them to be made. No pesticides, herbicides, GMO's, and no unpronouncable chemicals that have no business being in food in the first place. And organic foods really do have much higher nutrient contents than their conventional counterparts. The health benefits you'll recieve are priceless. More energy, better mood, heal from injuries much faster, and a decreases in the risk and severity of getting sick (I havn't been sick once since I made the switch to organic). Some sources even suggest that food containing GMO's can even lead to an increased risk of cancer, and the evidence is there. Beware of foods labeling themselves as "All Natural", those have GMO's in them as well, and no organic ingredients.
Anyways, if you're someone that's looking into increasing their health, and making better choices for the planet, I can't recommend enough that you start by making sure that everything you buy is certified organic. Hygiene products as well, but more on that later. I recommend going to a store like Whole Foods, or any other local healthy living natural market to do food shopping. I know it's a little bit more expensive, but I've found that it's entirely worth it in my experiences so far.

Natural News is a great website, and I definetely recommend searching around it.

The documentary "The World According to Monsanto". This is a great film that exposes the corruption behind the GMO industry, and the consequences that have arisen because of it.

Introduction

Hi everyone, and welcome to my blog. I named this blog after the Italian translation for "Lotus Flower" because those were viewed as the symbol of enlightenment amongst many of the ancient cultures, especially those of the Hindu/Yogic variety. They gave great praise to the flower because, although it has its beginnings and roots in deep mud far from the sun, it has the ability to overcome such obstacles, reach the light and fully bloom. I feel like this is big symbolism of my own life so far, or atleast what I'm attempting, but this blog will have very little to do with me or my own experiences. Instead, I'll be offering guidance on making healthier and more positive choices to look into, not only for your own life, but the world as a whole. The advice will range in topics from nutrition, exercise, books/movies to take a look at, brands and products that I've found to be tremendously healthy and beneficial, and many other things. I might offer spiritual advice, and perhaps talk about my views regarding political issues, world events, and other things going on. At times it might sound like I'm a salesman trying to market certain things or people, but I am in no way affiliated with anyone like that. I just recommend something/someone if I find that my life has been greatly enhanced by the services offered and will take the opportunity to allow others to look into those things so that they might enjoy them as well, if they like what they see. So with that said, check back every now and then, and hope you enjoy!
